South Korea has succeeded building a guided missile that is first launched into the air before submerging underwater to release a torpedo, a state-run defense agency said Monday.
According to the Agency for Defense Development (ADD), the " Korean Anti-Submarine Missile," (KASM) was introduced after nine years of development.
The missile, white is noted for carrying a lightweight torpedo that is unleashed in the water to find and destroy a target, may travel over 20 km in the air, ADD said in a statement.
The KASM is able to keep away from enemy detection as it hits its underwater target after flying over the water, the ADD added.
The missile will be deployed on board the country's most advanced destroyers starting next year after mass production.
