FM Wang Yi, US Vice President Pence discuss solution to Korean Peninsula issue

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and US Vice President Mike Pence in New York on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on Thursday, with Wang stressing that a peaceful settlement to the Korean Peninsula nuclear issue is consistent with the will of the international community.

Wang and Pence said that both sides "acknowledged the important consensuses both sides have on the denuclearization of the peninsula" and agreed to enhance communication over the issue, the Xinhua News Agency reported.

Wang also talked about Sino-US relations, saying that maintaining good ties is in line with the interests with the people of the two countries and the expectations of the international community. Chinese President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump enjoy warm relations, which provide a good start to bilateral ties under the Trump administration.

Wang noted that both sides are preparing for President Trump's visit to China to generate new energy to the future bilateral ties.

Pence said that the US and China share huge joint opportunities in extensive fields and Trump also hopes his visit further boosts Sino-US ties.
