Education officials consider Marxist education at six top universities the best in China, which shows that China is focusing more on Marxism and ideological work, experts said.

The subject of Marxism in the six universities, including Peking University and Tsinghua Unviersity in Beijing and Xinjiang University in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, was listed as the "world leading subject at top universities," by the Ministry of Education, National Development and Reform Commission and Ministry of Finance on Thursday.

Associate professor Feng Wuzhong of Tsinghua University's School of Marxism told the Global Times Thursday that "the listing is an important trend, showing that the Party and the nation are focusing more on developing Marxism."

Peking University, which established its Marxism School in 1992, said the school is an important yardstick on how well the Party's policy is implemented.

Tsinghua University's counterpart was established in 2008.

Xinjiang University's version, officially established in 2011, focuses on basic Marxist theory, Xinjiang history and ethnic policy, and modern Chinese history.

"Colleges and universities are on the frontline of ideological work and Party committees should supervise ideological work," Han Jin, head of the Party committee at Wuhan University, which is also among the selected universities, said in April.
