Police order DNA test in cow row

Police officer in Southwest China's Sichuan Province sought animal DNA tests to settle a dispute over the ownership of a cow.

Liang Shengjian, an officer in Mianyang, kicked things off Tuesday after posting on WeChat about the dispute involving two villagers who both claimed the yellow calf.

Shangyou villagers Xie Dengfa and E Mejia both said the cow belonged to their stock but could not provide proof, read Liang's post.

But it was Liang's request for help finding a lab to perform animal DNA paternity tests that caught attention on social media.

After their post made the rounds, police connected with Zhao Ling, a teacher at nearby Mianyang Normal University.

With Zhao's help, the officers had blood samples extracted from both Xie and E's cows to be sent for testing at a DNA lab in Kunming, Southwest China's Yunnan Province, China News Service reported.

The results have not yet been released.
