Shanghai's environmental protection authority is seeking public advice on a planned guideline to protect the city's environment between 2018 and 2020, Jiefang Daily reported Sunday.

Compared to previous years, there are stricter new standards and requirements for local environmental protection, focusing on nine special fields including water, air, soil, solid waste, industry, agriculture, ecology, circular economy and Chongming eco-island construction, with 250 projects arranged.

Take air quality for example: the annual average concentration of PM2.5 will be controlled below 40 micrograms per cubic meter for the next three years.

Back in 2014, before the sixth "three-year environmental protection plan" rolled out, the annual average concentration of PM2.5 remained 52 micrograms per cubic meter. According to the new three-year plan, the concentration of PM2.5 in 2020 will be reduced by about 23 percent from the figure in 2014.
