A Beijing-based law firm representing prominent China Central Television anchor Zhu Jun sued social media users Wednesday for spreading sexual harassment accusations against Zhu.

Zhu, a well-known TV anchor, has acquired the services of Beijing Xingquan Law Firm to investigate the case and hold those spreading rumors accountable, the law firm said on its Sina Weibo account.

The Haidian District People's Court accepted the case on Wednesday, the law firm said.

The Weibo user named "Maishao Tongxue" posted an article on July 26 claiming that Zhu sexually harassed one of her friends. In the post, the woman, an intern of Zhu, claimed that Zhu attempted to grope her but was interrupted by one of the show's guests. The woman then called the police but did not receive any feedback.

The post was widely shared by other Weibo users, including some prominent journalists.

Also on Wednesday, Maishao Tongxue said on her Weibo that she has also hired a lawyer to deal with the case.

"I voluntarily posted my friend's experience, and I trusted her every word," she said. She added that she hopes her efforts could help push society toward progress and development.

Zhu is a latest public figure to have been accused of sexual harassment in China. Prominent charity activists, including Lei Chuang, were accused of sexual abuse in July. Lei has since apologized.
