Michigan head coach John Beilein will guide the Cleveland Cavaliers in the new season, the organization announced on its official website on Monday.

"Following the end of those interviews [with the candidates], it became clear that coach Beilein was the right choice and best fit for our franchise," Cavaliers General Manager Koby Altman said. "We are excited coach Beilein is joining our organization as we continue to build the foundation that any enterprise needs to be successful and competitive year in and year out."

Beilein, 66, was the winningest coach in the University of Michigan during his 12-year tenure with a career record of 829-469 (.639). He has guided the school to two Final Four appearances in 2013 and 2018.

"I want to thank the University of Michigan for what has been a truly special home and remarkable place for my family and I for the last 12 years," Beilein said. "At the same time, I felt very strongly about this new and exciting opportunity with the Cavaliers."

"Cleveland is a great city with amazing fans and I am really looking forward to calling Cleveland home for years to come," he added.

The Cavaliers finished second but last in the Eastern Conference last season with a 19-63 record.
