Over 50 percent of Chinese consumers think that the food, particularly hamburgers, sold by American fast-food restaurant chains McDonald's and KFC, have become less in volume, based on a survey conducted by the Southern Metropolis Daily on Tuesday.

A video from Pear Video posted Tuesday on Sina Weibo by "LaoBanLianBo" shows that, a reporter went to McDonald's and KFC, and asked the staff members whether their burgers had become smaller with a hidden camera.

A staff member from McDonald's said that the size of their burgers had not changed. They look smaller now because they are wrapped more tightly.

KFC said that some of their burgers were smaller than others because they were cut into smaller pieces and it is normal for food to be cut into different sizes.

However, most netizens were not convinced by what the restaurants explained.

They said that they did actually feel that the burgers at both McDonald's and KFC had become smaller, and also more expensive.
