Xinjiang exposes latest cases of illicit online activity

The Cyberspace Administration and Public Security Department in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region released six cases of spreading illegal information online and punishments of individuals who violated  anti-terrorism laws, Xinjiang Daily reported on Tuesday. 

The six cases included two people in the Kizilsu Kirgiz Autonomous Prefecture and Kashi Prefecture who downloaded audio and e-books which promoted religious extremism on the internet. The public security bureaus detained the two people in accordance with the law. 

An individual surnamed Zhang from the Changji Hui Autonomous Prefecture was detained for "spreading rumors related to the region's measures on stability?and disturbing social order. 

Cyberspace administration and the public security authorities said in the release on Tuesday that cyberspace is not a place outside of judicial reach. Authorities will hold accountable  those who  spread messages, images, audio and video footage of violence, separatism and extremism that harm the unity of different ethnic groups and the country.
