China's top political advisory body is willing to strengthen exchanges and cooperation with the Jamaican parliament to promote bilateral relations, a visiting Chinese senior political advisor said here on Wednesday.

Bater, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), made the remarks during a meeting with Thomas Tavares-Finson, president of the Jamaican Senate; Pearnel Charles, speaker of the Jamaican House of Representatives and other lawmakers.

Bater said that since the establishment of the diplomatic relations between the two countries 47 years ago, bilateral ties have developed steadily. Recently, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness jointly lifted bilateral ties to a strategic partnership, which opened a new chapter for the two countries' relations.

He introduced Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and the spirit of the fourth plenary session of the 19th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. He also introduced the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China (PRC) and the 70th founding anniversary of the CPPCC.

Tavares-Finson and Charles extended congratulations on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the PRC, saying that Jamaica is one of the first Caribbean countries to establish diplomatic relations with China. Jamaica is willing to further develop relations with China and deepen friendly cooperation in various fields between the two sides.

A CPPCC delegation led by Bater is visiting the Caribbean country from Monday to Thursday at the invitation of the Jamaican parliament.
