Having a grand dinner for Chinese New Year's Eve is a tradition in China, no matter if a family decides to stay at home or dine out. On Sunday, reports that the Palace Museum's Corner Tower Restaurant is accepting reservations for an "imperial family" feast on Chinese New Year's Eve excited Chinese netizens, leading it to go trending on China's Twitter-like Sina Weibo.

Although the price for the meal is a hefty 6,688 yuan ($966.78) for a table for 10, plus an additional 680 yuan per person, all reservations had  been booked up by Sunday evening, with those calling in late only able to get put on a stand-by list.

The New Year's Eve dinner is not only being provided during Chinese New Year's Eve, which falls on January 24 this year, but from January 17 to February 8 during lunch and dinner hours, according to a report from Beijing Youth Daily. To ensure a high quality experience, only a limited number of reservations are available each day.

No official menu has been publicized yet, but some staff at the restaurant have told media that dumplings, a traditional festival food, will be on the table as well as some dishes related to the history of the Forbidden City, which is also called the Palace Museum.

This is not the first time the Corner Tower Restaurant, located at one of the four corner towers of the structure, has trended on social media. A hot pot meal proved extremely popular during the first half year of 2019 but came to an end due to security concerns. The restaurant is located outside the Gate of Divine, the exit of the Palace Museum as it is not necessary for customers to purchase a museum ticket to dine there.
