Chinese telecommunications firm Huawei has continued to make in-kind donations to global efforts to combat the coronavirus pandemic, despite hesitancy and even hostility from some countries toward adopting Huawei technology.

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced that Huawei is among a number of major companies that have made donations to the state. The Chinese company's donation package included 10,000 N95 masks, 10,000 pairs of gloves, 20,000 isolation gowns and 50,000 pairs of medical goggles.

The company's operations in Italy in mid-March also revealed a donation of 1,000 protective suits for various hospitals in Milan and 200,000 FFPA2 CE face masks for the European nation that has suffered heavily from the deadly disease.

Huawei's donations also leverage its technology prowess. The company has offered to facilitate information exchanges between Chinese and Italian health teams using its WeLink cloud collaboration platform. It has also provided Wi-Fi 6 networks equipment for local temporary hospital facilities, enabling communication between the facilities and other healthcare bodies.

Other European nations that have reportedly received masks from Huawei include the Netherlands, Spain and Ireland.

The company has also donated more than 1 million masks, 50,000 pairs of gloves and 30,000 pairs of goggles to Canada, The Globe and Mail reported in early April, despite the fact that Canada is thought to have helped the US in suppressing Huawei.

Meng Wanzhou, the daughter of Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei and the company's chief financial officer, was arrested in Vancouver in December 2018 by Canadian authorities at the request of the US for allegedly violating US law.
