The travel industry will recover gradually, and the summer season and National Day holidays could be peak travel periods, according to a report released by think tank the China Academy of Social Sciences on Tuesday.

The report was the result of 15,163 answered questionnaires, and showed that 28.3 percent of all surveyed had canceled their original travel plans due to the epidemic, 16.7 percent intended to change their travel plans, and 9.1 percent had changed their destination.

But nearly 30 percent of all surveyed expect to resume tourist activities three to six months after the virus is eliminated in China, and almost 30 percent are unsure. 21.3 percent of tourists believe they will resume tourist activities within three months of the virus' elimination.

The report also found out that Wuhan, the worst-hit city in China, has become the city most respondents desire to visit. Other parts of Central China's Hubei Province are also on the list.

The report showed that the per capita tourism consumption budget for the next year, from the second quarter of 2020 to the first quarter of 2021, is 5,746 yuan ($811), an increase of 734 yuan over last year.
