A minute of silence was observed at the opening ceremony of the 3rd session of 13th National People's Congress (NPC) on Friday to mourn the victims of the COVID-19 and those who sacrificed in the fight against the pandemic.
Chinese President Xi Jinping and other Chinese leaders mourned for lives lost to COVID-19 as the country's top legislature began its annual session at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on Friday.
They joined the country’s top lawmakers to pay a silent tribute to martyrs who died fighting COVID-19 and compatriots who lost their lives in the epidemic.

Previously, China’s top legislature paid a silent tribute to the victims of the March 1 terrorist attack in the Southwestern city of Kunming at the opening of the second session of the 12th NPC at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on March 5, 2014.
Participants of the 5th session of the 8th NPC, which was held in March 1997, mourned late leader Deng Xiaoping, deemed as the chief architect of China's economic reform, opening up, and modernization.
