Chinese Premier Li Keqiang met with press at the Great Hall of the People after the conclusion of the third session of the 13th National People's Congress (NPC) on Thursday, saying China is expected to see economic growth in 2020 if tasks in six key areas including creating jobs, maintaining people's livelihoods and enlivening market entities are completed.

If the economy and other fields see big changes, China will still have policy leeway to deal with it, whether it's on a fiscal, financial or social security front, and the nation will not hesitate to move swiftly to introduce new supportive policies to back up the economy, said Li, noting that economic development is key and the foundation for solving all the country's problems.

If China stabilizes its economic fundamentals, it will be making contributions to the world economy, according to Li.

China contributed about 30 percent of world economic growth in 2019, and will continue to be a major driver of global economic growth, according to a report from the National Bureau of Statistics in February this year.

While China vows to maintain stable economic growth, the country has not set up a quantitative target for GDP growth this year, which is "a decision based on the reality," said Li.

Though it has not set a specific economic growth target for 2020, China will work to ensure it achieves its development goals of winning the battle against poverty, and building a moderately prosperous society in all respects at the end of this year, according to the Government Work Report delivered by Li at the opening of the third session of the 13th NPC on Friday.
