Chinese streaming giant iQIYI starts filming adaption of Keigo Higashino's novel 'Samayou Yaiba'

China's streaming site iQIYI announced on Sunday that shooting has begun on its newest original film, a Chinese adaption of Japanese writer Keigo Higashino's novel Samayou Yaiba. The announcement comes as China is beginning to restart its entertainment industry, which has been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The film, set to be released on 2021, stars Chinese veteran actors Wang Qianyuan and Wang Jingchun along with Qi Xi and Wang Tianchen. The 2004 novel, which has been adapted into Japanese and South Korean movies, tell a revenge story about an architect whose only daughter was murdered by a group of under-age boys. 

As the streaming giant's first original film project, the new Samayou Yaiba reveals iQIYI's ambitions to produce original content in 2020. The cast and crew includes Huang Zhiming as executive producer and Chen Zhuo as director as well as scriptwriter Yang Weiwei,who worked on the screenplay for the 2019 dark horse film Sheep Without A Shepherd
