A fire station in Northwest China's Shaanxi Province received an emergency call from the local police on Monday, calling for assistance in unlocking a pair of handcuffs from a suspect, The Beijing News reported on Tuesday.

Police in Yulin of Shaanxi encountered problems when trying to unlock the handcuffs of a suspect during an interrogation on Monday.

After a number of failed attempts, the police had to turn to firefighters for help.

"When we got there, we found that the lock cylinder had slipped, causing a malfunction," said one fireman. They finally cut off the handcuffs by using an insulation cutter, which took less than five minutes.

The suspect did not suffer any injury during the process.

Netizens saw humor in the suspect's experience. "He must have felt broken  after being surrounded by so many officers," read one comment on Weibo.
