A documentary about the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea (1950-53), also known as the Korean War, is scheduled to be aired during prime time (8 pm) on CCTV on Wednesday to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Chinese People’s Volunteer Army’s participation in the war.

The six-episode documentary Yingxiongernü, which can be translated as Heroic Sons and Daughters, depicts the real stories of the People’s Volunteer Army during the war. It includes interviews with hundreds of veterans and reveals many valuable historical audio and visual recordings to the public for the first time.

For example, an original sound recording of a war report by Commander and Commissar of the People’s Volunteer Army Peng Dehuai will be played during the documentary.

Chinese netizens took to social media to express their high anticipation for the documentary, adding that the stories of these great soldiers need to be documented.

“I salute those heroes! I hope more film and TV works can show the history of that time,” a Chinese netizen wrote on China’s Twitter-like Sina Weibo.

“I couldn’t stop crying after watching a clip from the documentary. Such tenacious spirit and brave sacrifices without fear should be remembered,” another netizen wrote.
Two episodes, each 52 minutes long, will be aired each day from Wednesday to Friday.
