The fifth Gallery Weekend Beijing will return to six main art zones in Beijing from March 23 to 28, the organizing committee announced on Sunday.

According to Wang Yifei, director of Gallery Weekend Beijing, a total of 36 galleries, institutions and art organizations are currently scheduled to take part in the 2021 event.

Among them, four galleries, including the Shixiang Space and Soka Art, will participate for the very first time.

Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, international cultural exchanges will move online and include streaming events.

Gallery Weekend has also developed its own app and website to provide video content, online forums and live streaming tours.

For the public art section, Chinese artist Bao Dong will take the reins as curator of the event, which will take "Unlimited Public" as its theme.

Bao said the section will invite the public to interact with the exhibits and artworks. Young artists and new talent will be featured at the New Power section through group exhibitions.

The event will also work with galleries in Guangzhou, Chengdu, Shanghai and Hong Kong for exchange programs.
