The well-known Peking Opera The Legend of the White Snake was performed in the Centenary Hall of Peking University last night. It was the first stop of a tour to promote Peking Opera on campuses, according to Jinghua Times.

Du Jinfang, the renowned Peking Opera artist, directed the show. She rejuvenated the traditional story with more current elements into a full-length opera.

A big attraction of the play was the subtle changes with the stage setting, the lines and the performances by distinguished actors Ding Xiaojun and Jin Xuebin, all of which received great applause from the mainly student audience.

The opera now goes to Renmin University of China and Tsinghua University.
