Communications World Website (CWW) reports communications technologist Hou Ziqiang as saying that the potential price competition during the 3G application period has created stiff competition for traditional wireless city business providers. In many cities abroad, wireless city trial pilots have not gone well.

However, it doesn't mean the goal of having a wireless city is hopeless, Hou says. Some cities aim to upgrade its high-tech image, and are offering free broadband access through government support. This is a good chance for the wireless city business conductor.

He adds another strong point for having a wireless city program lies in government application. Traditional communications networks cannot meet the demands of government.
