The construction and testing of China's largest science facility, the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation facility, was completed on April 29 at the Shanghai Zhangjiang High-tech Park in the Pudong New Area.

The machine creates super X-rays capable of revealing the structure of complicated chemical compounds and proteins.

The project involved a total investment of 1.2 billion yuan. Construction began in 2004.
