With eight more ministers sworn in on Thursday night, the Nepali cabinet is expanded.

Ten days after Nepal's new Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal took oath of office along with another two ministers from his own party -- the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist Leninist) ( CPN-UML), the cabinet on Thursday was expanded with eight more ministers from coalition parties.

M.K. Nepal was sworn in as the prime minister of Nepal on May 25, and on the same day appointed Bidhya Bhandari as Defense Minister and Surendra Pandey as Finance Minister. Both of them were from his party -- the CPN-UML.

Bijay Kumar Gachhedar of Madhesi People's Rights Forum was sworn in as the Deputy Prime Minister (DPM) and Minister for Physical Planning and Works.

Sujata Koirala of Nepali Congress (NC), leading another five ministers from her party, and Dambar Shrestha from the Communist Party of Nepal ( Marxist-Leninist) were sworn in as ministers.

In the presence of President Ram Baran Yadav, who is the constitutional head of the government, Prime Minister M.K. Nepal administered oath of office to the ministers from three more parties.

The second largest party in Nepal's Constituent Assembly (CA), NC sent six ministers, including Sujata Koirala, the daughter of former prime minister and NC president Girija Prasad Koirala.

The NC ministers include four former ministers and two new faces to the cabinet.

While Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat is a former minister of state for foreign affairs, Bal Krishna Khand is a former minister of state for education and Umakant Chaudhury a former assistant minister for agriculture and cooperatives.

Sujata Koirala, who was minister without portfolio in the Prime Minister's Office when her father was the premier of the Interim Government, is the new foreign minister.

The two first-time ministers are Dr. Minendra Rijal, an NC lawmaker and former party spokesman, and Purna Kumar Sherma, a senior leader from eastern Nepal.

The Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist Leninist) (CPN-ML) also sent a representative, Dambar Shrestha as Forest and Soil Conservation Minister.

The cabinet is yet to get its full shape with the other ministers' portfolios to be announced later.

The cabinet expansion has seen dissent among almost all the constituent parties.

Girija Prasad Koirala was entrusted by his party to choose the new ministers. However, Koirala's decision to nominate his daughter to lead his party in the new cabinet has triggered disagreement among senior leaders asking him to reconsider his decision.

The other major ally of the government, Madhesi People's Rights Forum (MJF), finally sent its representative after a protracted infighting between its two top leaders, former ministers Upendra Yadav and Bijay Kumar Gachhedar.

Other parties expected to join the government are the Terai Madhes Democratic Party (TMLP), Sadbhavana Party and Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), among others.

However, till now, none of them have been able to finalize their nominees.

The ruling CPM-UML party itself is yet to come up with more names.
