Oh Sang-eun and Park Mi-young made it a double victory for South Korea by winning the men’s and women’s singles titles at the Japan Open table tennis tournament yesterday.

Oh beat Patrick Baum of Germany 7-11, 13-11, 11-6, 9-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-6 in the men’s singles final, denying the German his first career title.

Park, 24, who won the world doubles bronze medal in 2007 and 2009, coasted to an 11-8, 7-11, 11-9, 11-6, 11-4 victory over five-time Japanese national champion Sayaka Hirano in the women’s singles final.

For Oh and Park, it was only their second titles on the tour after both winning the Chile Open in 2006. It was also the first time that a Korean player had won the women’s singles title since Kim Kyung-ah in 2002, and the first-ever men’s singles title in the Japan Open.
