An international-level resort in the famous tourist site of Inlay in Myanmar's Shan State has been opened, aimed at attracting more world travelers to the destination, the local weekly Pyi Myanmar reported Thursday.
"Pristine Lotus Spa Resort", located in Kaungtai village, can accommodate about 120 visitors and special services such as spa, traditional dances and tour bus services are available for the visitors, the report said.
Inlay region is known as an area of outstanding natural beauty and famous for its environment and villages in the region sit on floating islands on the lake. Colorful hill tribes inhabit the surrounding fertile valleys and forested mountaintops and their hand-woven silks are a specialty of the region.
In March this year, a three-day orchid show was held in Inlay to exhibit orchids from the region and its surrounding areas as part of Myanmar's efforts to boost tourism.
There are also other famous resorts in the country -- Ngapali, Ngwe Saung and Chaungtha.
Myanmar's tourism business started to drop near the end of 2007 and continued in 2008 during which deadly cyclone Nargis was experienced and the global financial crisis, which sparked in late 2008, also delayed Myanmar's tourism development.
The tourism authorities has stressed the need to promote the country's international tourism market for the revival of its tourism industry.
According to official statistics, tourist arrivals in Myanmar in 2008 totaled over 260,000.
