Australian alternative pop band Frente! will make a rare visit to China next month, arriving in Beijing on Monday before hitting Shanghai, Nanjing and Hangzhou.
Best known for their acoustic version of New Order’s Bizarre Love Triangle, the band’s fresh and light-hearted pop tunes and lyrics were popular in the 1990s.
Frente!’s 1992 hit accidentally Kelly Street was included in the soundtrack of Blue Gate Crossing, a 2002 movie by Taiwan director Yi Zhiyan, winning the group a strong fan base in China.
“I was fascinated by their music when I was younger,” said Xiao Gang, media officer at Pocket Records, the tour’s organizer. “We appreciate good music and the tour is dedicated to Chinese fans to revive their memories.”
Formed in 1991 and disbanded in 1996, Frente! released Marvin the Album in 1992, Shape in 1996 and 15 EPs in Australia and abroad. Regrouping in January 2005, the band features Angie Hart on vocals, lead-guitarist Simon Austin, bassist Bill McDonald and drummer Alastair Barden.
Frente! will play Star Live in Beijing Monday, Zhijiang Dream Factory in Shanghai Wednesday, Jiangnan Theater in Nanjing Thursday and Zhejiang Concert Hall in Hangzhou on August 7. Opening for the group is Cuba is Japan.
