A 52-year-old kung fu master named Yang Zhenlong in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province said his remarkable skill with sleeve darts – shot from beneath a long sleeve – and other martial art techniques were taught by a mysterious “beggar granny.”
Yang’s sleeve dart fame stems from his ability to hit small targets with superb accuracy and even to puncture steel plates or glass windows with the darts.
But according to him, he owes it all to the kung fu beggar granny who first “tested him” when he was eating lunch as a 16-year-old factory employee in 1971.
Yang said the woman purposefully tripped him with her long cane in a small restaurant, but instead of scolding her, he bought her a bowl of noodles.
The elderly woman then asked him to escort her back to her home, where she presented Yang with a package wrapped with red cloth.
She unfolded the package to reveal eight traditional kung fu weapons and told him that her name was Yang Yuzhen and revealed that she was a master in one of the many Chinese kung fu schools.
A friendship blossomed and according to Yang, she passed all her skills on to him. The kung fu beggar granny died in 1976, Yang said.
