Italy pips China for women's team bronze at archery World Cup

Italy defeated China 210-203 to win the bronze medal in the women's team recurve event at the archery World Cup here on Sunday.

The Chinese team, consisting of Zhao Ling, Ouyang Ruyu and Zhu Jiani, only managed to score 203 points from 24 arrows while the Italian trio - Elena Tonetta, Natalia Valeeva and Pia Carmen Lionetti shot 210 points.

"We performed well at the very beginning, but we failed to catch our chance," said sixteen-year-old Zhu. "Our form were not stable, and the strong wind did make us some trouble."

China and Italy were level at 133-133 after 15 arrows, but the Chinese girls made some mistakes in the following six arrows, earning two five points, while the Italians were in form.

The archery World Cup Shanghai stop take place from Aug. 4-9, attracting 233 archers from 31 countries and regions.
