1. Sweet and sour pork

This dish is made of slices pork that are deep-fried and then stir-fried with ingredients, including sugar, ketchup, white vinegar, soy sauce, pineapples, green peppers and onion. It tastes sweet and a bit sour.

 

2. Kung Pao chicken

The dish was originally named after the inventor Ding Baozhen, whose title was Kung Pao. It uses diced chicken as the primary ingredient and chili peppers, vegetables and peanuts. It is spicy but delicious.

 

3. Mapo doufu

Mapo doufu is a combination of tofu (bean curd) set in a spicy chili- and bean-based sauce. It is often topped with minced meat, usually pork or beef. While it may look spicy, it isn’t too spicy in terms of taste.

 

4. Wonton

Wonton is made with a thin dough wrapper with fillings such as minced pork, coarsely diced or whole shrimp or oysters, finely minced ginger and onion or carrots, sesame oil and soy sauce in a simple right triangle shape. It is usually boiled and served in soup or sometimes deep-fried. Adding seasonings such as salt, pepper and oil make the wonton soup tastes fresh.

 

5. Dumplings

Dumplings are made of flour wrappers with filling such as meat, fish, vegetables or sweets. They may taste spicy, savory or sweet depending on the fillings. Dumplings can be eaten either alone or in a soup.

 

6. Spring roll

Spring rolls are usually eaten in the Spring Festival, hence its name. They are made of flour wrappers with fillings. The fillings can be either meat or vegetables. After the fillings are rolled in the wrapper, they are deep-fried until they are floating on the oil with a golden color. Their tastes vary with the fillings, either sweet or salty.

 

7. Chow Mein

Generally speaking, chow mein is a dish of stir-fried noodles. It can be made of more than one kind of noodles that may be narrow or wide, tasting salty or spicy.

 

8. Peking Duck

Peking Duck, also known as Peking Roast Duck, is considered to be one of China's national dishes. To prepare for the dish, ducks are bred specially for this dish and slaughtered after 65 days. Before roasting the duck in a closed or open oven using the wood of fruit trees, the duck is seasoned so that the flavor is absorbed into the meat. Usually, Peking Duck is eaten with pancakes, spring onions and sweet bean sauce.
