Former residence of Sun Yat-sen

Sun Yat-sen (1866-1925) was the great instigator of the Chinese democratic revolution, the founder of the Republic of China who made a significant contribution to Chinese modern history.

The residence is a two-story European-style building. Walking through the house, one can recreate the life of the owners through every exhibited article, from swords hung over the fireplace, the photos on the living-room wall, to the books lining the bookcases, and even a pair of eye glasses. From 1918 to 1925, Sun and his wife, Soong Ching Ling lived here, which was donated by some patriotic overseas Chinese Canadians in support of the Chinese revolution. [Globaltimes.cn]

 

Former residence of Mao Zedong

Mao Zedong (1893-1976) was the world’s most prominent Chinese Communist during the 20th century and who led China’s communist revolution and served as Chairman of the People’s Republic of China from 1954 to 1959.

Chairman Mao’s former residence is located in Shaoshan City of Hunan Province, 104 kilometers from Changsha City. When you enter the courtyard, the house is painted a sunny yellow, with mud brick walls, with a thatched roof. The place is located on a wooded hillside, above some lush paddy fields. Former residence of Chiang Kai-shek

Chiang Kai-shek (1887-1975) was a political and military leader, and was an influential member of the Kuomintang and Sun Yat-Sen’s close ally. He became the commandant of Kuomintang’s Whampoa Military Academy and when Sun died in 1925, Chiang took his place as party leader of the KMT.

The former residence of Chiang Kai-shek was bought by T. V. Soong for his sister Soong May-ling when she was married to Chiang in December 1927. It is now a high school affiliated to the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. Shanghainese called the house “Chiang’s Imperial Resort Palace” or the “Chiang-Soong villa”. But Chiang himself called it “Ai Lu”, literally “the House of Love”. [Globaltimes.cn]

 

Former residence of Zhou Enlai
Address: No. 73 Sinan Road in Luwan district, Shanghai, China


Zhou Enlai (1898-1976) was a leading figure in the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), premier (1949–76) and foreign minister (1949–58) of the People’s Republic of China, who played a major role in the Chinese Revolution and later in China’s foreign relations.

The home is a garden residence of French style on whose gate there is a board that reads, “Residence of Mr. Zhou” and “Residence of General Zhou Enlai”. The items in the bedrooms are displayed exactly where they were, but are actually replicas and not the original pieces. [Globaltimes.cn]

 

Former residence of Deng Xiaoping

Deng Xiaoping (1904-1997) was China’s most important leader from the late 1970s until his death. His economic reform policies called “the Four Modernizations” in 1978 set the stage for China’s emergence as a world economic power.

Covering an area of over 800 square kilometers with 17 rooms of different sizes, this wooden construction is simple and elegant set off by green trees and bamboo. The residence exhibits lots of precious photos, which give insight into the revolutionary experience and record the great achievements of the man. [Globaltimes.cn]

 

Former residence of Liu Shaoqi
Address: Tanzichong, Huaminglou villiage, Ningxian county, Hunan Province


Liu Shaoqi (1898-1969) was the former vice-chairman of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, chairman of the People’s Republic of China and national defense minister. He was a passionate Marxist and outstanding proletarian.

The construction of Liu's residence began during the reign of Emperor Jiaqing in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), and faces west. The four-sided building is made of locally-produced bricks, wood and straw, with grey tiles lining the roof. The building has 20 rooms of various sizes and covers an area of 380 square meters.
