The newly built double-layered Minpu No.2 Bridge on the Huangpu River will open to public transport buses on Friday.

On the bridge, which opened to cars last Friday, drivers are legally allowed to reach speeds of up to 60 kilometers per hour. Bicycles, mopeds, trucks and pedestrians are not permitted.

The city plans to extend the Line 5 subway track by 2013, when trains will be able to run through the lower half of the bridge.

The first bridge of its kind for the Chinese mainland connects Fengxian district and Minhang district in the southern end of the city.
