A well-known Chinese proverb says: "Kill the chickens to frighten the monkeys." But in Yunnan Province there is a one-armed rhesus monkey that is frightening its owner by killing chickens.
Li Chun lives in Manbian village in Menghai county, Yunnan Province. When he was cutting green feed for pigs last year, he saw two dogs attacking a small rhesus monkey and rescued it, nursed it back to health and has since kept it as a pet.
But the monkey, which lost its arm in the attack, later saw his savior slaughtering and plucking chickens and decided to "help," Li said.
Despite having only one arm, Li said the monkey will "catch any chicken, big or small, kill it by breaking its neck and then start pulling out its feathers. I've punished it many times. Now it doesn't do it while I am home. But if I am out he starts it again. So far it's killed 80 chickens."
