Winston Chung, the founder of Shenzhen-based Winston Battery Limited in Guangdong Province and inventor of the rare earth lithium battery, has donated $10 million to the University of California, Riverside (UCR) for the UCR Bourns College of Engineering to develop clean batteries, solar and sustainable transportation study.

UCR Chancellor Timothy P White said Chung was the largest individual donor in UCR history. UCR will name one of its building as Winston Chung Hall. The College will use the donation to establish the Winston Chung Global Energy Center for  battery study in the future.
