China's quality supervision and inspection authorities said Friday that 4,060 Volvo S40, XC60 and C70 vehicles have been recalled over problems with their headlight cleaning systems.
A fault in the headlight-cleaning pump may affect the washer fluid level sensor, meaning that drivers may be unable to get correct information about low levels of washer fluid in the cleaning system, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) said in a statement.
Chang'an Ford Mazda Automobile Corporation, producer of the Volvo S40 vehicle, and Volvo Car (Shanghai) Sales Co, traders of the XC60
and C70 vehicles, will inform customers and will offer checks and repairs, according to the statement.
"We will help our customers to check and repair the cars for free," Ning Shuyong, spokesperson and vice president for Volvo Cars Corporation China, told the Global Times Monday.
"Recalling of cars is a common phenomenon among all car companies, even BMW and General Motors Company," Zeng Zhiling, director and auto industry analyst with Shanghai-based automotive market forecasting company JD Power Asia Pacific Forecasting, told the Global Times Monday.
Volvo also issued a recall for its XC60 models in Australia last week, over a fuel supply line problem. But Zeng said that doesn't necessarily mean there is the same problem with XC60 models in China, because car companies use different suppliers in different sales areas, even for the same model.
"I have been driving a Volvo for several years, and I don't worry about the quality of the cars. The recall will have little effect on my life," Meng Yongan, 66, a doctor who drives a Volvo S40 in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, Northwest China, told the Global Times Monday.
