A sow in Kangbao county, Hebei Province, has become a sensation among locals after it gave birth to an elephant-like piglet recently.

According to the sow owner Liu Jinjiang, "I've had the pig for more than seven years, and it always gave birth to normal pigs."

On May 6, however, the sow gave birth to a very peculiar creature – an elephant-like pig.

The piglet was more than 40 centimeters long and has big ears, a 5-centimeter-long nose, and even appeared to bear small tusks.

Liu said it died about 10 minutes after the birth.

"When I saw the sow's fat belly, I expected there to be a lot more piglets inside," Liu said. "To my utter surprise, it was just that one massive freak."

"Locals have been positively freaked out by the creature," said village head Zhang Bingfa. "They couldn't believe it when they heard about it."

Zoologists have yet to examine the corpse to determine what the creature really is.
