A Chinese man, apparently posing as a Thai national, has been arrested for allegedly embezzling $32.96 million from Chinese banks, Thai authorities said Monday.
Thailand's Department of Special Investigation (DSI) arrested the man, who held an ID card that identified him as a Thai national, on May 18 in Bangkok, the DSI said. "Our investigation has shown that the suspect, Chen Wu, has lived in Thailand under the name of Boonchaisae Kang."
The DSI, which revealed Thai authorities would cooperate with the Chinese embassy in Bangkok in extraditing Chen to China, said he would also be charged with illegally requesting a Thai ID card.
Chen reportedly received his first Thai ID card in 1995 in the southern province of Krabi.
