The last time Hong Kong actor-singer Edison Chen was caught in a sex scandal was three years ago, though it seems like Thursday sometimes. Chen's still describes taking his computer for repair as his "biggest regret," a feeling doubtless shared by his female co-stars in the affair.
After an investigation, arrest, mea culpa and suspension from public life, Chen returned - and with him, another scandal involving a 16-year-old teen model; this time, though, it seems Chen is the victim.
Cammi Tse, a student over the age of legal consent, was pictured kissing and hugging Chen together with a series of flirtatious text messages between the two, in which the star begged Tse to bring uniforms and swimming suits on her visits.
After Tse admitted the images came from a "lost" phone, Chen distanced himself, claiming he'd split with former girlfriend Vincy Yeung, 21 - who stood by him throughout the original brouhaha - about six months ago and was "lovesick" when he met Tse.
"My feelings are complicated … [Tse and I] had just started but now this happens. There's nothing I can say," he confessed.
With a Tse photoshoot forthcoming, the whole thing seems orchestrated for Chen to take the fall.
After all, this isn't the first time Tse has tried to take advantage. Just last year, she accused a Hong Kong TV star of sexual harassment but he proved of insufficiently high profile. This time she hooked the big fish in Infamous Ed.
She'll get her five minutes of fame (and doubtless move onto her next victim) but for Chen, it's surely a case of fool-me-twice. So maybe it's time to give up the amateur photography career?
