Northwest China's Shaanxi Province will build 400,800 units of indemnificatory apartments this year to further improve housing conditions for low-income families and migrant workers, the Xinhua News Agency reported Sunday.

The indemnificatory apartment project will focus more on the provisioning and construction of public rental housing in 2012, according to the provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.

Indemnificatory housing includes low-rent and affordable housing, public rental housing and relocation projects for residents who have been moved to make way for commercial developments. 

Shaanxi Province is projected to build 2.1 million units of indemnificatory houses during the 12th Five-Year Plan period (2011-15) which means that 30 percent of urban households in the province will live in indemnificatory houses.
