The 4-hour Spring Festival Gala hosted by CCTV began in 1982. It is once a dream pursued for many actors no matter they have fame or not for its numerous audience and its influences. Through it, some actors who are ordinary people from grass-roots could get an over-night success.
However, quite a few actors and actresses including those who wan their reputation from the gala claimed that they rejected to join the gala.
Meanwhile, an increasing number of Chinese youth expressed their disappointment to the gala, including some former gala fans.
To bring audiences even closer to the annual show, the Gala organizers have taken a slew of measures to make the live telecast more inviting.
1. CCTV's Spring Fest Gala searching for the "most beautiful family photo"
The production team of the Spring Festival Gala has collected submissions for "the most beautiful family photo" from around the country to invite more families to attend the event.
The activity started in October through the websites of CCTV, Tencent, and Sina.com and lasted more than 40 days. Participants from different parts of China sent in their family photos and told warm and touching family stories.

2. New Spring Festival Gala anchors
Three new TV anchors will join the host team of China's Spring Festival Gala this year, in an effort to rouse the younger generation's interest in the festival, according to the directing team behind the production of the Gala.
CCTV's anchorman Bi Fujian, famous for his natural, humorous and lively hosting style, and Sabeining, known for hosting the Topics in Focus (Jiaodian Fangtan) and anchorwoman Li Sisi born after 1980’s, will be the new faces of the Gala team, the Shanghai-based Dongfang Daily reported.

4. China launches 3D TV on New Year's Day
CCTV New Year’s Gala will also be shown via 3D technology and audiences will be able to enjoy dancing, acrobatics and magic via their 3D glasses at home.
China has marked the New Year with the start of 3D TV service this year. After a trial run, the 3D TV will be officially put into operation during Spring Festival later in January.

5. No advertising during the live broadcast
Ha Wen, the chief director of CCTV's 2012 Spring Festival Gala, said there will be no advertisements broadcast this year during the live broadcast of the Gala, which will last over four hours.

Cui Yongyuan, CCTV's famous achor, host the Spring Festival Gala launched by over 50 migrant workers in Beijing while he was supposed to be awarded at the China Charity Annual Conference the same day on January 8, this year.

1. Buffett to sing on China's Spring Festival Web Gala
American billionaire investor Warren Buffett will show his singing talents to viewers of the gala that will be broadcast online to celebrate Chinese New Year, organizers said in January.
Buffett, 81, has recorded a video specially for the gala in which he sings and plays guitar, Wang Pingjiu, a production executive for the broadcast, said at a press conference.

2. Community Spring Festival Gala
China's first community Spring Festival Gala will air on January 17, 2012 on chinasq.com, China's community volunteer service network, according to the Hubei authority.
More than a thousand residences from about 2,000 communities nationwide will showcase their characteristic performances during the event, said the Hubei Television Station.

Besides, a number of participants from "Chinese Bridge,” a Chinese proficiency competition of foreign college students, will sing traditional Chinese folk songs and perform traditional Chinese arts for audiences.
Foreign anchors are also expected to host the Hunan Spring Festival Gala together with Hunan top anchors according to the chief director of the provincial New Year party.
The anchor, whose Chinese name is Mai Xiangming, will join other anchors for the provincial celebration of the Spring Festival, said Gan Qiong, the director of the provincial event.
Shanghai: Japan's popular SMAP music band
Kimura Takuya, head of Japan's popular SMAP music band, will perform during the Shanghai Spring Festival Gala, which will be broadcast on the Dragon Television Station at 7:30 on January 23, 2012.
