Liu Weihong, a female political advisor in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, beat a female reporter during a press conference on Monday, accusing the reporter of writing a series of false reports on her company.
Liu, a member of the Guangdong provincial committee of the CPPCC and the head of a real estate agency, Shenzhen Yijing Central Walk, held a news conference on Monday to respond to reports made by Qin Xingmei, a reporter with the Shenzhen Economic Daily. Qin stated in a news report that Liu's company was suspected of being involved in the illegal sales of apartments, the Shenzhen Evening News reported.
However, upon arriving at the conference, Liu claimed that Qin threatened her during the interview and said that Qin vowed to see her fired from her post as local political advisor.
During the conference, Liu refused to answer any questions asked by the Shenzhen Economic Daily reporters or Qin Xingmei.
"I will not answer any of your questions and I will clean all of you out soon," the Shenzhen Evening News quoted Liu as saying.
However, as she was answering questions from other media, a group of people broke in carrying banners and demanding that Liu give them their house ownership certificates, according to the Shenzhen Economic Daily.
Liu then suddenly left the conference followed by Qin who tried to ask her questions. Liu then turned, grabbed Qin and punched her in the chest before being restrained, the Shenzhen Evening News reported.
"Liu was so angry at Qin for her false reports about our company, which have affected the company's image and business, so Liu could not help herself," Wang Xuemei, an employee with Shenzhen Yijing Central Walk, told the Global Times Tuesday.
According to Wang, the company had intended to sell off a small number of apartments to buy stock rights from their American partner. These apartments were then mortgaged to the bank, but without reason, the bank allegedly did not allow the company to be responsible for the houses and it was unable to give ownership certificates to the buyers.
"It is not our fault, but Qin's reports blamed us entirely. It is so groundless," said Wang, who further claimed that the people who interrupted the press conference had been summoned by Qin.
Qin refused to be interviewed by the Global Times Tuesday. But according to the Shenzhen Evening News, Qin was diagnosed as having chest trauma, "I was so shocked at that time, and I was almost out of breath with my chest in constant pain," said Qin.
According to local police, Liu and Qin offered totally different answers about the incident. The police will thus try and mediate between the parties after an investigation.
