The suspected Taliban insurgents set on fire a school in Badghis province 555 km northwest of capital city Kabul on Friday night, spokesman for provincial administration Sharafudin Majidi said Saturday.
"Taliban insurgents set ablaze a primary school in Balamurghab district of Badghis province last night as a result a major part of the school building, stationary and text books were destroyed," Majidi told Xinhua.
Girls of several villages attended the school in the morning shift; while the boys attended it in the afternoon, the official further said, adding that damaging the school would deprive the pupils from education at least for several months to rebuild it.
Taliban militants fighting Afghan government and opposing education for girls have yet to make comment.
According to the official, the Taliban militants abducted four employees of National Statistics last Wednesday in Muqar district and efforts are underway to secure their safe release.
