On March 20, Central South University declared it would employ Liu Lu, a 22-year-old graduate student, as a research fellow, making him the youngest professor in China.
In 2010, this junior student solved an international math problem, the "Seetapun Conjecture," stunning mathematicians worldwide. As well as his new title, Liu Lu also received 1 million yuan ($158,000) as a reward.
@中国特色新民:I hope the job will not have a negative effect on him. People should attribute Liu's success to his talents and efforts. If he is required to attend different meetings and apply for programs, is it possible that he will become as banal as an ordinary person at last?
@广东ronny:As far as I'm concerned, this employment is not good for genius Liu. He needs a place where he can do research attentively. I think, for Liu, material and personnel supports are much more important than a position.
@鱼摆摆iii:I strongly support this kind of promotion. Solving an international problem is extremely difficult. His success indicates that he is a talented person. Whether he will make progress later or not, employing him as a professor, which shows respect and love for talent and science, will have a big impact on the current educational system where bureaucratic behavior is becoming more and more common.
@雨汐_静谊:Can a man of deep learning be a good teacher? I think age and experience should be the necessary criteria for being a professor, and professors should teach how to adapt to this society as well as pass on knowledge. As a professor, Liu is too young to have experienced enough. In my opinion this case is a risky one. His value also needs testing by time.
@大梦87:Giving him some material rewards and encouragement is right, but employing as a professor is a little ridiculous. Too much reputation, too much expectation and too much media attention will bring him a lot of pressure. After all, he is just a 22-year-old boy.
