Birds in the game Angry Birds have been claimed as Chinese-based, beginning with a bird-lover in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province, who says he found the inspiration for the "red" bird.
The picture of aethopyga gouldiae was uploaded onto the Internet, attracting many bird lovers.
Aethopyga gouldiae is similar to the red game character "Jorge", and it is also reportedly a common species in Yunnan Province, southwestern China.
Other kinds of birds in the game have also been found.
Rhyacornisfuliginosus is similar the "blue" bird with its strong sense of territory, the swallow is the "yellow" with its speed and shape, and the black bird is aptly named as the "black" character.
However, a bird-lover association in Jiangsu Province says although people can find similar birds to the game character, no archetype of the Angry Bird actually lives in China, as the real inspiration for the red bird is reportedly the little-known Pyrrhuloxia that could only be found in the Americas.
The birds in the game are creatures of from the designer's imagination afterall, only based on the archetype of the birds in actual life, despite what zealous gamers/bird-watchers might claim.
