GM eyes Cadillac sales
General Motors expects sales of its Cadillac models in China to match US sales levels by 2015 or 2016, Dan Akerson, the company's chief executive, said yesterday.
Akerson said Cadillac sales in China grew 73 percent to over 30,000 last year, and were up 20 percent in the first quarter over the year-ago period.
Last year, GM sold about 152,000 Cadillac cars in the US.
Honda unveils new cars
Honda Motor Co yesterday unveiled two concept cars developed for China and announced plans to build two new plants in the country.
Honda unveiled the Concept C and Concept S, developed for the Chinese market, that will be the base for two new models to be produced and sold next year with partner Dongfeng Motor Group.
Honda also said it would spend 46 billion yen ($560 million) to build a new car and a new engine plant in China, boosting its annual production by around 30 percent.
Compact production
Mitsubishi Motor wants to start producing Mirage compact models in China by 2014, a top executive said yesterday.
President Osamu Masuko told reporters that Mitsubishi aims for annual sales of at least 100,000 units of Mirage a year in China.
The company also aims for China sales of 300,000 in 2015 versus 164,000 in 2011.
