Following the success of the Shanghai Whampoa Club at Three on the Bund, the restaurant has opened a second branch in Beijing that continues the reinterpretation of gourmet Chinese cuisine, with an emphasis on Northern Chinese cooking and luxuriant Cantonese seafood.
Like its Shanghai counterpart, the Beijing Whampoa Club strives to bridge the gap for its guests between China’s great culinary traditions and inventive new dishes. Flavors are intensified. Drama is added to the presentation. Imperial gourmet recipes are invigorated with a contemporary flair.
Designed by the Shanghai-based firm Neri and Hu, which also created much of the Three on the Bund interior, the Beijing Whampoa Club is situated in one of the last remaining siheyuan (courtyards) in the Financial Street district.
This courtyard is at once classically Chinese and distinctly modern, A set of stairs leads down to a hushed dining room illuminated by glowing birdcages. During the day, rays of sunlight bounce off suspended metal baubles, revealing a koi pond atop a translucent glass ceiling. In both cuisine and design, the Beijing Whampoa Club deftly blends Chinese tradition and cutting edge innovation. It showcases a commitment to developing revolutionary new dishes while maintaining a deep reverence for the classic principles of Chinese cooking. The results are guaranteed to delight lovers of Chinese cuisine worldwide.
