A video showing teachers in Tangshan calmly guiding their students to evacuate a school after a 4.8-magnitude earthquake hit there on Monday has gone viral online since it was posted on Wednesday. Teachers at the Tangshan Yingcai School instructed their students to protect themselves under desks when the quake hit and later on arranged them to evacuate from the classrooms to the playground in an orderly manner, the video shows.
“My teacher said that she herself was very nervous and a little bit scared then. But she still tried to calm us,” said a Web user from Tangshan.
The teachers, who were calm and responsible, ignored their own safety when the quake hit, which has earned them nationwide praise.
The 4.8-magnitude earthquake in Tangshan, where it had previously experienced a destructive quake in 1976, triggered nationwide concern over whether it was possible there could be another devastating quake in that location.
雁飞鹤舞:
I was very calm and did not cry even when I experienced the Wenchuan quake in 2008 but sobbed when I saw that my parents and daughter were safe after the quake. However, the six-minute video which showed how teachers there kept their students in order during the evacuation, unexpectedly made me cry. I would like to deliver my homepage to these teachers, who protect our kids well.
曲木么阿佳: Probably only those who have experienced disasters know how to cherish what they have.
江湖二夏: Only when confronted with a desperate situation can we discover that all of us are equal.
Yuanyue1234: Actually, it’s what teachers should do. In Japan, schools must bear in mind earthquake prevention measures, which can not only help people save others but also themselves. Rescue efforts could be more efficient if on-the-spot situations are in order. Therefore, disaster prevention education is necessary even at primary schools. Students should be told where to go during a disaster and where they should not go. Everyone should prepare for possible future disasters.
李_玲: The video is really touching! But I can’t understand why the name of the school and its headmaster were shown at the end of the video, which made it seem like a promotional act for the school.
吉尔维斯: The teachers’ calmness in dealing with the quake merits praise. But why are there so many cameras in the school? It seems that students are watched over all the time.
