The start-up ceremony of training of the "Peace Mission 2012" joint anti-terrorism military exercise of the armed forces of the member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) was held on the morning of June 9, 2012 at the "Chorukh-Dayron" shooting range near the Khujand city of Tajikistan.
At 09:00 sharp, the start-up ceremony of training started officially. Maj. Gen. Emomali Sobirov, commander of the Tajik Ground Forces and chief director of the military exercise, declared the official start of the "Peace Mission 2012" joint anti-terrorism military exercise of the armed forces of the SCO member states. Afterwards, the ceremony to raise the national flags of Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan was successively held.
Following Sobirov's speech, deputy chief directors of the Joint Directing Department from Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan and Russia made a speech respectively at the start-up ceremony of training. In his speech, Wang Zhenguo, deputy chief director of the Chinese side and deputy chief of staff of the Lanzhou Military Area Command (MAC) of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA), expressed that as the 9th joint military exercise within the framework of the SCO, the "Peace Mission 2012" will hold high the great banner of anti-terrorism, study new subjects, practice new tactics and be bound to contribute much to the start of the next decade of the SCO.
