Local authorities of Sudan's South Darfur State said Tuesday that they had repulsed an armed attack by rebels of the revolutionary front in Jabel Marra, Sudanese Media Center (SMC) reported.

"The authorities in South Darfur State have managed to repulse remnants belonging to the revolutionary front at Sanqa area in Jabel Marra," the report said.

"The regular forces have pursued the remnants of the revolutionary front and surrounded them inside small pockets at Jibal Affara and Qabat Hammad areas," the SMC quoted Abdul-Karim Musa, governor of South Darfur State, as saying.

The governor disclosed that there was security coordination between his state, East Darfur, North Darfur and South Kordofan States, aiming at cleaning rebel remnants and bandits along the state borders.

He said that the security situation in the state was stable, with the reduction of crime rates.

In last June, the South Darfur State witnessed attacks by armed groups, in which four policemen and four civilians were killed and four others wounded.

The revolutionary front is an alliance bringing together three Darfur rebel groups, including the Justice and Equality Movement ( JEM), the Sudan Liberation Army (SLA)/ Minni Minnawi and the SLA/ Abdul-Wahid Nur faction, as well as the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM)/northern sector.
