The Fiji netball side will not participate in the Netball Nations Cup 2012 in Singapore scheduled for December because of funding problems, Fijian media reported Wednesday.

Netball Fiji president Wainikiti Bogidrau was quoted as saying that lack of funds forced them to cancel the trip as they had other commitments for the national team, adding that their priority in the short-term is Fiji's under-21 team's preparation for Scotland.

"We need to conserve funds for the commitment to Scotland and to the Pacific Netball Series to Samoa next year," said Bogidrau.

Fiji netball coach Unaisi Rokoura said they had given individual training programs to players following the withdrawal from the Singapore tour, adding that the players would regroup on December 15 for a fitness test before gathering again in January next year to prepare for the Pacific Netball Series.

Rokoura said she would not hesitate to drop the axe on players who fail to perform at the fitness test.

The Asian Champions will compete in the Netball Nations Cup 2012 which will be held from December 2 to December 8 at the Toa Payoh Sports Hall in Singapore.

Now in its seventh year, the Netball Nations Cup 2012 is expected to be an exciting international event. Renowned for featuring teams from different regions of the world, the competition promises seven days of fast and furious action in the court as players exhibit their skill and grace, while demonstrating different styles of play. The results of this competition will affect each team's world rankings.
