Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino on Wednesday congratulated Barack Obama after the latter won re-election.
Aquino extended his congratulations to the US leader by sending a letter to the White House, presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda said on Wednesday afternoon.
"As the President wrote in his letter, as a treaty ally and strategic partner of America, the Philippines looks forward to deepening the cooperation between the Philippines and the United States in Mr. Obama's second term," he said.
Aquino also wrote that the American people, in giving new mandate to Obama, have trusted him to stay the course, move them forward, and to continue harnessing the voices and ideas of the American people, he said.
In a statement released earlier Wednesday, Philippines' Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said the Aquino administration warmly welcomes the success of Obama, and looks forward to continue working with the Obama administration.
"We look forward to continue working with the administration of President Obama in strengthening relations between our countries and in the promotion of peace and progress in our region and the world," the department said.
